A LEICESTER TikTok sensation is using her songs and her newfound popularity to raise awareness of mental health and the things which “people usually choose to gloss over.”
Chloe Adams, 24, went viral last November with her song ‘Dirty Thoughts’, after she uploaded a three second clip of it to popular social media platform TikTok.
The video currently has over 9-million hits, and the singer’s account is followed by over 1.4 million people.
In her latest single ‘Dead To Me’, which was released last month, the Thurnby singer hopes to raise awareness of mental health through her lyrics, which are written about a toxic relationship, with a person she needed to cut out of her life for her own mental well-being.
“It’s a very personal story about a very toxic person I had in my life, that I just decided to cut out, and it’s kind of a brutal depiction of that,” she told Pukaar News.
“People say my music’s very honest, and I can’t believe some of the stuff you say in the songs.
“But I like all of my songs to be very truthful, and say the things that people usually choose to gloss over,” she added.
Chloe’s second single, ‘Pretty’s On The Inside’, which she released in 2017, is an example of the depth, and the raw honesty contained within her lyrics, as well as her debut song ‘The Doctor Said.’
“When I was younger I was chubby – I was very geek-like and was bullied at school a lot,” she said.
“I was always saying to my Mum ‘why can’t I just be like the pretty girls’, and so I think that song (Pretty’s On The Inside) is one in particular which resonates with me the most.”
Chloe makes her music in a small cottage she shares in Thurnby, with her producer/fiancee Matt Lonsdale.
The pair met when Chloe was 16, and she says that living together and having such a close relationship really helps the creative process.
“You have that space to be really honest, and you can also just roll out of bed and get straight to work,” she said.
“When we wrote ‘Dirty Thoughts’, I just came into Matt one day and I said ‘I have this amazing idea’, we should write a song called ‘Dirty Thoughts,’ she went on to reveal.
“Matt said are you sure? And I was like ‘100 per cent, let’s write it! People can’t scroll past that on TikTok – some random blond girl singing ‘I get dirty thoughts about you!”
“We wrote the chorus that afternoon and put it up on TikTok and it just instantly flew,” she added.
“I was just kind of sat on my sofa watching the views go up from 20,000 to 100,000, to one-million – it was insane!”
Chloe is currently preparing for shows in the near future, including some which are planned in Leicester.
