Members of different community groups and organisations were invited to Leicestershire Police Headquarters to get an insight into policing and the work of many of its teams.
Hundreds of people were invited to the Intercultural event last Friday (September 1) at Force headquarters, Enderby.
Guests were able to enjoy demonstrations by many teams at Leicestershire Police, including its Dog’s Unit and Tactical Fire Arms Team.
Stalls were also set up so that people could find out more about the diverse range of networks within Leicestershire Police, in. These include the Leicestershire Hindu Police Association and the Leicestershire Police LGBT+ Network.
Many officers attended the event, including Chief Constable Rob Nixon who said it was a great way to connect with key community contacts.
“It’s a bit like an open house, a chance for us to bring people in, allow them to have a look, meet teams and ask questions,” he told Pukaar News.
“It’s also an opportunity for me to say thank you to them, because these are people that are here on a regular basis. We have people that are involved in community work, and different activities that are involved in communities. So on one hand it’s about celebrating and embracing their relationship with us, but at the same time it’s a great opportunity to say a huge thank you.”
Last Friday’s event was the first of its kind for four years, due to Covid and other important operations.
“I’d like to get back to having these on a regular basis, and I’d like to extend the invitation even further, so that people can bring guests with them,”said Mr Nixon.
“That way we can get even further reach into communities and people can get first hand exposure to what we’re doing, it’s hugely important in terms of building public confidence.”
