Broadcasting Queen Didar Kaur Bahra Honoured for Over 45 Years of Service to Sikh Community

Didar Kaur Bahra, affectionately known as Dee, has been honoured with the Outstanding Service and Contribution Award to the Sikh Community by the Sikh Sports Association, Leicestershire.

With over 45 years in broadcasting, Dee’s career began in the 1980s with the BBC after managing EAVA FM, Leicestershire’s pioneering multi-lingual radio station.

She has since become a respected voice in South Asian media, producing and presenting numerous programmes across the UK.

Beyond broadcasting, Dee has dedicated much of her life to youth and community development, earning several accolades including the Millennium Achievers Award in 2000.

After moving to London, she continued her broadcasting journey at Panjab Radio, one of the UK’s largest Panjabi stations, spending ten successful years there.

Speaking about the award, Dee said, “My love for Leicester will never fade. This city and its communities have given me strength and opportunities to serve. I am truly honoured by this recognition.”

The award was presented on 12 December 2025, celebrating Dee’s lasting impact on the Sikh and wider communities.
