Christmas comes early at two city council museums this weekend, with festive events taking place at the Guildhall and the Abbey Pumping Station.
The popular Christmas Craft Fair returns to Leicester’s Guildhall for two days on Saturday and Sunday (1&2 Dec).
Taking place in the beautiful 600-year-old building, the fair will showcase the work of local artists and makers, with a wide range of stalls selling handmade arts, crafts and gift ideas.
The seasonally-decorated medieval hall provides a perfect festive backdrop for some Christmas shopping, with a real crackling fire and Christmas tree.
Mince pies, mulled wine and hot food from Pick’s Organic Farm will also be available.
The Guildhall Christmas Craft Fair runs from 11am-4.30pm on both days. Admission is £1 for adults, with no charge for children.
Also taking place this weekend is a Christmas Steam Day at the Abbey Pumping Station.
The event on Sunday (2 Dec) will be an opportunity to see one of the magnificent Gimson beam engines in steam and to enjoy some Christmas carols, accompanied by a live band.
The cafe will be open for a warming mince pie and the narrow gauge railway will be running (additional small charge for train rides).
Admission to the family-friendly Christmas Steam Day – which runs from 1pm-5pm on Sunday – is £3.50 for adults, £2.50 for children/concessions and £8 for a family ticket.
