Prime Minister David Cameron spoke about a 5 year plan to tackle extremism today during a visit to Birmingham.
The Prime Minister outlined plans to combat home-grown extremism and said the government’s strategy included:
Enabling parents to apply to have their children’s passports removed if they suspect them of planning to travel abroad to join a radical group
New powers to tackle cult leaders and those spreading extremist messages
Extra powers for communication watchdog Ofcom in tackling foreign channels which promote messages of hate
Encourage universities to denounce speeches by Islamist extremists
Avoid social housing where people living there are only from one ethnic background
Tackling sectarian and communal segregation in schools
