An award winning Garba singer is set to perform in Leicester this weekend, with thousands of music fans expected to flock to the city’s Cossington Park.
Kinjal Dave gained fame with her hit song “Char Bangdi Vali Gadi” in 2017. Since then, she has released many popular songs and has performed at various events in India and abroad. She is known for her traditional Gujarati folk music and has won several awards for her contribution to the music industry.
The popular songstress, is set to perform at a ‘Summer Garba’ being held at Leicester’s Cossington Park on Saturday (July 20).
It is the second time the singer has come to the UK as part of a tour, which will also see her perform in London and Manchester.
Last year she performed a sell out show at the city’s Ramgharia Hall.
“Due to public demand we’re bringing her back again, and we’re doing it bigger and better this year,” said organiser Raj Shah.
“This time we want to do something different and bring the performance outside to make her feel at home. Back in India, the majority of Garba performances happen outdoors so we want that feel to happen over here in the UK.
“People that love Garba will know exactly who Kinjal Dave is. She’s got millions of followers online. She is a very talented Garba artist,” he added.
“So far the response has been great and we’re looking forward to the tour.”
Raj is expecting over 2,000 people to attend the Garba, which will take place in a marquee between the hours of 7-11pm.
As well as Kinjal’s performance, there will also be food stalls, plus jewellery and fashion vendours.
He hopes it will be an event which will bring all communities together.
“This event is something new, especially for the Leicester crowd. We’d like to join everyone in force. It’s open to everyone, every community,” Raj told Pukaar.
“Kinjal’s a versatile singer so people should come and support from all sorts of cultures and communities.
“It’ll be a family fun day for everyone to get involved.”
