Leicester’s Curve theatre has been awarded a Highly Commended Access for All Tourism Award at this year’s Visit England Awards for Excellence. The theatre had previously won the Silver award in 2012 in the same category.
The Curve received the award at the annual awards night held on 12 May at Cheltenham Race Course, on a night dedicated to celebrating the very best of England’s tourism industry.
Chief executive of the Curve, Fiona Allan, said:
“We are thrilled to have been recognised at these prestigious national awards for the second time. We are very proud of the exceptional facilities and the initiatives that we offer. Accessibility and inclusivity lie at the heart of everything that we do, from affordable ticket prices and an ever-expanding range of access and relaxed performances, to the broad range education projects within our local communities”
Nominated venues and attractions also in the category included Calvert Trust Exmoor, Living Options Devon – Countryside Mobility Scheme, Eureka! The National Children’s Museum, Jurys Inn Brighton and Sandcastle Waterpark.
The Curve theatre stages a variety of performances throughout the year for all audiences with classics such as Annie and The Sound of Music, which will be performed later on this year from 28 November until January 2015. The Curve also stages new plays such as Horrible Histories: Barmy Britain, a stage adaptation of the children’s history books by the same name.
Fiona Allan and the rest of the Curve staff hope that this latest award continues to enhance the reputation of Leicester’s most renowned theatre and will help to attract even more theatre-goers, with Fiona Allan commenting that, “We look forward to welcoming even more people into our unique building.”
