Hundreds of people took to the streets of Leicester today for the annual St Patrick’s Day parade.
Beginning at the Holy Cross Church on New Walk, the colourful parade snaked its way through the city, led by the Leicestershire Pipe band and ended up at Jubilee Square, where young Irish dancers entertained the crowd.
The parade is now in its 5th year and is co-ordinated by the Emerald Centre, Tony Cusack, runs the centre and said, “its been a fantastic day with all the different Irish groups represented, the senior citizens luncheon group, Irish dancing schools, gaelic football teams, Irish society”
“Its very important to celebrate the culture, the Irish culture is all about music and dance and having a good time, but also friendship and meeting people that you haven’t seen maybe for a year or longer even, so you can meet up with people who you Havant seen in a long time, and different generations like to come to together to celebrate such a wonderful spectacle and event”
