The family of a man who died after being assaulted in Tudor Road, Leicester, have paid tribute to a “much-loved father, husband, brother and uncle.”
Dumitru-Nicolae Cherascu, known as “Nicu” to his family, was found unconscious with serious head injuries at 11.30pm last Tuesday (29 November).
The 42-year-old, from Leicester, was taken to hospital but died on Friday evening (December 2).
In a statement, Dumitru’s family said: “Nicu was a much-loved father, husband, brother and uncle and he will be dearly missed by those who knew him. We must now try to come to terms with what has happened so we can begin to grieve this awful loss.”
The family are being supported by specially trained officers at this time.
Following Mr Nicolae Cherascu’s death, detectives launched a murder investigation, which has resulted in the arrest of five people.
A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder on Monday (December 5) and remains in police custody.
Another man – 41-year-old Marian Botea, was also charged with murder.
A spokesman for Leicestershire Police confirmed that two women and another man who were arrested on suspicion of Nicu’s murder have since been released.
A 34-year-old woman has been released on police bail.
