Over £800k is being invested in resurfacing roads in neighbourhoods across Leicester in the coming weeks.
The works are being carried out by Leicester City Council as part of its annual highway maintenance programme over the next six weeks.
In Humberstone and Hamilton, work takes place from February 18 to 26 resurfacing nearly 5,000 square metres of Main Street and Steins Lane, at a cost of £165k.
At Coleman Road, Evington, four days of work from February 20 to 23 will see it resurfaced from The Langhill to just past Avondale Drive. The work will cost £74k.
Start dates are due to be confirmed for further works during March. They include resurfacing the entire length of Strathmore Avenue and Glenmore Road, in Rushey Mead, at a cost of £80k. Provisionally this will start on March 5.
In the Castle ward, £29k is due to be invested on resurfacing the whole length of Winifred Street, also likely to be from the first week in March.
£110k is being ploughed into resurfacing all of Marston Road, in Troon ward – an area covering almost 3,000 square metres, while at New Romney Crescent in Humberstone and Hamilton, £75k is being invested in resurfacing from Netherhall Road to Hamilton Lane. Both those schemes are scheduled for mid-March.
Later on in March, work is due at Minster Crescent in Abbey ward and Hughenden Drive in Saffron ward, at a combined cost of £133k. In each case the full length of the road will be resurfaced.
Nearer the city centre, Dover Street will be resurfaced from just past the entrance to the NCP car park as far as Wellington Street, and including part of Albion Street from Dover Street to Chatham Street. That work will cost £65k and is due to begin in late March.
Likewise, work is due at the end of March at Cairnsford Road in Knighton, from its junction with Aberdale Road to just past Northdene Road, at a cost of £44k.
Finally, the entire length of Greenside Place in Eyres Monsell is due to be fully resurfaced from the start of April at a cost of £42k.
In each case, roads will be temporarily closed to allow the work to take place, with local diversions in place. The total resurfacing programme comes to £841k.
