Amrit Saab, the award-winning Punjabi singer, songwriter, and actor, recently sat down with Pukaar to share his musical journey and give fans a glimpse of what they can expect from him in 2025.
Hailing from the Indian Punjab, Amrit’s love for music began at a young age. Yet, despite his natural talent, he never envisioned himself pursuing a career in the music industry. At the age of 15, Amrit moved to the UK with his family, eventually settling in Birmingham.

Before embarking on his musical path, Amrit worked a variety of odd jobs. It wasn’t until 1999 that he decided to fully commit to music.
“I started off working in a shoe factory, then helped in the family business. In 1997, I opened my own vending machine business, filling machines at schools, colleges, factories—pretty much everywhere,” he recalls. “I never thought I’d become a singer or enter the music industry.”
Amrit credits renowned Sufi singer Sabar Koti for inspiring him to take the leap into music. Koti’s invitation to perform on stage gave Amrit the confidence to explore his potential as an artist.
“It had a huge impact. I thought to myself, if this legendary figure—the best singer in Indian Punjab—is saying this, maybe I do have something in me,” Amrit shares. “I never looked back after that.”
Amrit’s music is often classified as Punjabi pop, but his ability to blend influences from various genres has made his work resonate with a wide audience, particularly in the contemporary Punjabi music scene.
His debut album, ‘Mindro’, was released in 1999, but it was his 2002 hit ‘Kabza’ that truly catapulted him to stardom.
“It was a massive success,” he says with pride. “Even now, it’s still getting millions of views on YouTube. People comment saying, ‘It played ten times at my brother’s wedding’ or ‘Ten times at my uncle’s birthday.’ That’s how big that song was. It makes me so proud.”
Amrit cherishes every aspect of being in the music industry, from recording in the studio to performing live. Over the years, he has collaborated with a variety of artists, including singers, music producers, and DJs, earning a reputation for his relentless work ethic and his ability to create music that connects deeply with personal and cultural themes.

He has also penned some of the biggest Punjabi hits in recent years, including ‘Kangna’ for Dr Zeus, ‘Jawani’ (parts 1 and 2), and ‘Pyar’ for DJ H.
“I write for myself, but I’ve also penned songs for other artists, including major DJs who became superstars because of my lyrics,” he says. “I never call myself a king, but I’ll happily say I’m a kingmaker.”
Amrit reveals that much of his creativity stems from the books he reads and the experiences he encounters in his daily life. “I went for a drive earlier, and two ideas came to me—one was a typical Desi/Punjabi ‘gangsta’ style, and the other was completely romantic. Inspiration just hits when I’m going about my day.”
In recent years, Amrit has expanded his career into acting, with four films currently in the pipeline, including ‘Rishte Naate’, which is now playing in cinemas.
And, of course, fans can look forward to new music in 2025.
“I’m doing my best to keep my audience happy,” says Amrit, who is also a proud father of two teenage sons. “I’ve performed everywhere, except Australia. I love performing wherever I can connect with my fans and share the love.”
Amrit also expresses his gratitude to those who have supported him along the way. “A big thank you to King Gurcharan Mall for supporting me,” he says, acknowledging the contributions of the legendary figure in his journey.
When asked to offer advice to aspiring musicians, Amrit shared these words of wisdom:
“Believe in yourself. Don’t wait for anyone to help you—no one will. You have to help yourself first. Once you put in the work and find your own stage, people will start to notice. Keep trying, work hard, and you’ll make it one day.”
