A Leicester actress’s star is on the rise as she works with the director of legendary 90’s rom-com ’10 Things I Hate About You.’
Nekoda Garrett is working on an upcoming project with Gil Junger, who directed the award-winning film back in 1999. It famously launched the careers of Julia Stiles, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and the late Heath Ledger.
Speaking of the actress, who has over 270,000 active followers across her social media presences, Mr Junger said: “It’s a pleasure working with Nekoda as her natural beauty, intelligence, elegance and sophistication come through in an effortless, grounded performance. She’s definitely one to watch.”
Originating from the Gold Coast, but now based in Lutterworth, commenced her ballet training at the age of four with the Katherine Maddock Dance School and went on to study with the Ransley Academy and Dance Academy on the Gold Coast. During her extensive training she was awarded a full scholarship to study with the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, then after at the Australian Ballet School.
Nekoda completed her professional training performing in Europe with the Theatre Basel Balleyschule in Switzerland, graduating with honours.
Being a highly accomplished dancer, she has worked alongside the New English Contemporary Ballet Company travelling across the country performing in various ballet pieces.
She currently trains under the famous Mel Churcher, who has coached the likes of Daniel Craig, Angelina Jolie and Keira Knightly for various projects across the film, TV and theatre industries.
Mr Churcher said he was very fortunate to have worked with Nekoda, who he tips to go far in the industry.
“She is open to everything offered, and so versatile and talented in performance,” he said. “During our work together, she has played a variety of parts – both modern and period. And the final recordings have all been excellent. She is truly delightful. I think Nekoda will shine brightly and go far. I look forward to seeing her fly. And to watching her on a screen near me.”
