Leicester’s Pukaar Group has announced the return of National Thali Week (NTW), a nationwide celebration of South Asian cuisine set to take place from 6–12 January 2026.
Launched in 2024 by multi award-winning journalist Romail Gulzar in Leicester – known as England’s Curry Capital – the event shines a spotlight on the thali, a vibrant platter that brings together a variety of dishes representing the heart and soul of South Asian dining.

Now in its second year, National Thali Week aims to unite restaurants, food lovers, and communities across the country in a week-long celebration of culture, flavour, and togetherness.
The Pukaar Group is encouraging restaurants nationwide to get creative by offering their own special thali menus, promotions, and themed events during the week.
Venues can take part by:
- Designing unique thali menus featuring traditional or modern South Asian dishes.
- Offering special promotions or discounts to celebrate the occasion.
- Hosting tasting sessions or themed events that showcase the diversity of the thali.
- Sharing photos, videos, and stories on social media using #NationalThaliWeek and tagging the official accounts.
- Collaborating with local communities, charities, and food bloggers to raise awareness of South Asian culinary heritage.
National Thali Week also offers restaurants an opportunity to support local charities, whether by donating a portion of thali sales, organising charity dinners, or encouraging customers to contribute to community causes.
By taking part, restaurants can highlight their culinary creativity, attract new diners, and help strengthen community ties through a shared love of food.
Members of the public are also invited to participate from home by preparing their own thalis, sharing photos online, and joining in the national celebration.
