Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life 2016 event is encouraging all women of any shape or size to dust off their trainers and get set to raise money for one of the UK’s largest and most successful charities in Leicester this year.
On Sunday July 10th women who enter will be running either 5k or 10k events at Victoria Park, London Road to raise money for the charity. Race for Life, who are in partnership with Tesco, have been running since 1994, and last year in Leicester alone the charity raised £298,040 thanks to the 4,495 fantastic women who took part.
As one in two people are diagnosed with cancer at some stage in their life in the UK, the money raised through the Race for Life campaigns allow Cancer Research UK’s doctors, nurses and scientists to advance the research that is helping to save lives of men, woman and children across Britain. This fantastic fund-raising event has helped towards the now higher survival rates, which have doubled since the 1970s.
Danny Farrington, Cancer Research UK’s Leicester Events Manager, explained how participating in the event would help women to feel motivated towards getting fit, achieve their goals and open up a new chapter in their healthy lifestyles.
“Signing up to take part in Race for Life is a great way for women to commit to get a little more active,” Danny said.
“Race for life events are non-competitive. Taking part is not about being fit or fast and participants can choose to walk, jog or run around the course. The atmosphere is incredibly supportive. Pledging to take part, alongside thousands of like-minded women, is a great motivation to get fitter.”
As well as motivating people to get off of the sofa and finally complete their New Year’s resolutions to get fit, Danny also spoke about what the event represents.
“Race for Life is an amazing way to celebrate everyone we love who has survived cancer. It’s also an emotional and moving way to pay tribute to those dear to us whose lives have been cut short by the disease.”
The Events Manager continued to describe the event as a truly uplifting, inspiring experience which enabled women to stand together, shoulder to shoulder, and unleash a fighting spirit to stop cancer in its tracks.
For women who decide to sign up for the 5k and 10k events in January, they will benefit from a specially reduced fee of £10.00
