A glamorous awards ceremony in London took place last week celebrating the achievements of British Asian men and women at the height of their professions.
Around 250 people attended the Asian Professional Awards at the Grange Hotel in London on Friday 9 October.
Nominees from the length and breadth of Britain were joined by leaders of industry at the event, which saw awards given out in categories as such as Dentistry, Public Service, Banking & Finance and Media.
Prime Minister David Cameron sent a message of support, in which he said “we can look forward with great confidence tomorrow in the knowledge that award winners and nominees will no doubt inspire younger generations to follow in their footsteps, helping to take our whole country from strength to strength.”
First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon, also endorsed the awards with a message, saying ” Scotland’s success on the world stage is built on innovation and a rich and diverse cultural heritage. The Asian community has played an invaluable role in creating a Scotland that I am proud of.”
One of the Directors of the Asian Professional Awards, Harry Virdee, said: “One of the reasons why we established these awards was to help create a new generation of role models for all people in the UK to look up to, regardless of background or ethnicity. Hard working professionals rarely get the opportunity to celebrate their successes, and these awards give such people a platform from which to inspire others to follow in their footsteps as well as acknowledge their accomplishments to date.”
