Thousands expected this weekend at vibrant Hounslow Mela

London’s biggest South Asian outdoor music festival is taking place in Hounslow this weekend, with crowds of over 5,000 expected to join the vibrant celebrations.

Hounslow Mela 2024 is taking place this Saturday (June 22) at Cranford Community College.

A massive celebrity artist line-up is planned with artists such as Zack Knight, Jasmin Walia, Sonia Chohan, Roach Killa and Rafay Israr taking to the main stage throughout the day.

On the second stage, a large selection of dance performances will take place, including Apsara Arts, Kandyan Dancers, Ponsita School of Dance UK and Anashmita Dance Studio.

There will also be a food village, an arts village and over 30 stalls featuring food, fashion, jewellery, arts and crafts.

Crowds can also look forward to circus performers, a funfair, fashion show and live Dhol players at the event, which takes place between 12-8pm.

“We hope everyone can join us. I think it’ll be lots of fun and a great way to bring the community together to promote integration and cultural diversity,” said Darrius Nasimi, one of the event’s organisers.

“Events like this are important to help with the feelings of social isolation and exclusion, and I strongly believe that they will help to build stronger community ties and also promote the cultural diversity of South Asia.”

Tickets for the event are £8 for adults and £4 for children.

Any money raised will go towards the Afghanistan and Central Asian Association – a charity which helps to support the integration of people who are new to the UK.

Founded 25 years ago, it provides a range of activities including English classes for adults, free legal advice clinics on housing, immigration and family issues, women’s empowerment, mental health and counselling, employment support.
