Time to Crown England’s Next Curry Capital

Curry lovers across the country are being urged to cast their votes from March 5, as the search begins for England’s next Curry Capital.

Food fans have from March 5 until May 1 to back their favourite city in a nationwide vote celebrating the very best of England’s thriving curry scene, which provides an estimated £3-5 billion annually to the UK economy.

There are currently an estimated 8,000-10,000 curry houses across the UK, ranging from family-run neighbourhood favourites to award-winning fine-dining establishments.

Leicester was awarded the prestigious title in 2024, after being recognised for its rich South Asian culinary heritage, diverse range of restaurants and long-standing reputation as one of the UK’s leading curry destinations.

The city will now look to defend its crown as competition heats up once again, with prominent cities like London, Birmingham, Manchester and Bradford in the running.

The winner of this year’s vote will be announced in mid-June and will hold the coveted title until 2028, securing bragging rights and national recognition for its curry culture.

The competition was launched by the Pukaar Group, a platform known for celebrating diversity, community achievement and cultural excellence across the UK.

Its founder, Romail Gulzar, encouraged supporters to spread the word and rally behind their chosen city.

“Whether you’re backing the city for its history, variety, or emerging food scene, every vote counts!” he said.

“May the best curry city win!”

The initiative aims to highlight not only established curry hotspots but also emerging food scenes that are shaping the future of South Asian cuisine in England. Organisers say the competition is about celebrating community pride, culinary creativity and the enduring love affair the nation has with curry.

Residents, visitors and food enthusiasts alike are encouraged to take part.
