SUNNY JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS AT BRADGATE PARK

Thousands packed into Bradgate Park for a special Platinum Jubilee celebration today, which saw children take on a range of creative activities in the sunshine, including a chance to make their very own ‘Bug-ingham Palace’.

Today’s event (Thursday, June 2), also saw a special performance by Enderby Brass Band take place in the park’s deer meadow, plus Morris Dancing and the unveiling of a new piece of art in the deer barns.

The art work, which has been created in collaboration with the Arts Council and visitors to the park, looks back at the last 70 years of visiting and making memories at the beloved beauty spot.

“It really captures how people really love Bradgate, they’ve got some really treasured memories here, whether that was bringing their loved ones here, coming out with the family or proposing – all those fantastic stories that people have got are here, and we’re still looking to capture more people’s memories of the park over the past 70 years”, revealed James Dymond, Director of the Bradgate Park Trust.

“We’re really grateful to all the people that have come here today and got involved,” he added. “The weather’s really been the jackpot for us. It’s fantastic”.

Thousands turned out for the special ‘Bradgate Street Party’, with people coming from across the country to enjoy the extended Bank Holiday weekend, in honour of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and her 70 years of service to the crown.

Paying tribute, volunteer Julie Ladds, said: “She’s been an inspiration to the whole country. She’s been there and solid and steadfast and I love her”.

“It’s great to see the community spirit and people getting behind the royal family for the Jubilee”.

Later on this evening, once the sun has set, Bradgate Park’s Old John monument will be illuminated as a beacon – one of over 2,000 lighting up the country in celebration of Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
