St Martins House in Leicester was filled with the sound of Brazilian music on Friday 10 May with a group of Brazilian dancers performing Zumbi for the Let’s Dance International Festival. The dance is based on the story of Zumbi dos Palmares who became the figure head of black resistance against injustice and oppression in Brazil in the 1600’s. His legend lives on today and is celebrated by Renato Rocha (Artistic Director) as he promotes internationalism and diversity, in light of the Olympics hand over. Mixing Brazilian culture and African influences, this work incorporates dance, music, aerial skills, circus technic, capoeira and contemporary art in an astonishing spectacle and explosion of energy.
