Led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur and head coach Amol Muzumdar, the squad and support staff were greeted with rapturous applause from a crowd of enthusiastic Indian fans. The event celebrated not only their sporting achievements, but also their growing stature as icons of modern India.

His Excellency Vikram Doraiswami, High Commissioner of India to the UK, lauded the team’s influence both on and off the field. “You are not just athletes; you are role models and ambassadors for a rising India,” he remarked. “It isn’t just what you do on the pitch that inspires us—it’s your stories, your courage, your conviction, and the pride with which you wear the national shirt. You have revolutionised not only cricket, but the very idea of participation for women across India.”

Reflecting on the changing landscape, Mr Doraiswami added, “Once upon a time, dreaming of playing for India was a privilege afforded to a select few, mostly boys. Today, thanks to you and the trailblazing women before you, young Indian girls know there is nothing they cannot achieve—from sports to flying fighter jets. You have shown the nation what is possible.”

He emphasised the broader impact of Indian sportswomen, saying, “Whether it’s athletics, hockey, or cricket, our sportswomen are inspiring the next generation. The message is clear: this could be you.”

UK Immigration Minister Seema Malhotra also extended her congratulations, highlighting the team’s growing influence within the British-Indian community. “In today’s world, physical fitness is key to mental wellbeing, leadership, and character. In every sense, you are true inspirations,” she said.

The evening was enlivened when all-rounder Jemimah Rodrigues delighted the audience by singing the iconic Bollywood classic ‘Yeh Dosti’ from the film Sholay, prompting cheers and applause from the crowd.

Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana expressed gratitude for the unwavering support from English fans. “England was where the support really began—you filled Lord’s and every venue back in 2017. Please keep coming out; we’ve got two more games in Manchester and Birmingham. Your support means the world to us,” she said.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur echoed her thanks, saying, “The love and encouragement we receive here is truly overwhelming. It motivates us to give our best every time we step onto the field.”

Coach Amol Muzumdar acknowledged the warmth and hospitality shown to the team in England, promising an exciting brand of cricket. “We are committed to playing a style of cricket that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Every one of our players is proud to represent India, and we hope to make you proud in return.”

India currently leads the five-match T20I series 2–1, with the next fixture set for Wednesday at Old Trafford, followed by the final match at Edgbaston on Saturday, 12 July.
