A Leicester man and his wife have been found dead at their home in Antigua, an incident investigators are treating as a double murder.
The lifeless bodies of 65 year old Tyrone Baptiste and his 60 year old wife, Pia, were found around 9:15 am on Wednesday (July 20) at their home in Golden Grove.
Investigators say both victims were found with gunshot wounds and the husband also had a knife wound.
Police have now launched a double murder investigation into the couple’s deaths.
Mr Baptiste, who was born in Antigua, is believed to have grown up in Leicester before moving back to his home country with his Dutch-born wife.
Real News Antigua reported that the pair’s bodies were discovered by Mrs Baptiste’s co-workers after they went to check on her when she didn’t show up for work.
The site also reported that neighbours heard gunshots in the early hours of the morning.
“It is not clear how many assailants had entered the house. Police are seeking to ascertain the motive for the attack, but theorize it was robbery. At least one spent shell was found on the scene,” they said in their report.
Mrs Baptiste operated ‘Tropical Adventures Antigua’, a company which offers tours of the island.
They shared a touching tribute to her on social media.
“We are saddened to announce the passing of Mrs Pia Baptiste, the General Manager of Tropical Adventures,” it reads.
“Pia has been associated with Tropical Adventures for nearly 30 years and was the rock and foundation that our company was built upon.
“Our condolences and deepest sympathies go out to her children and her entire family in Antigua and abroad. May Pia and her husband Tyrone rest in peace. Amen.”
On social media, Mr Baptiste was someone who was described as a “great man, who always had a word to make you smile.”
