A collection of thought-provoking images capturing the leading research of the University of Leicester will be on display in a photography exhibition at Fraser Noble Hall on Wednesday 27 November, 11.00am to 4.00pm.
The university’s Doctoral College invited researchers to submit an image to best represent their work and communicate their passion for their subject to be exhibited at the Images of Research event. They were given a deceptively simple brief – communicate your research in a single image for members of the public to view.
The research topics presented at the exhibition-cum-competition are diverse and far-reaching including topics such as coral reef, scanned electron microscope images, neutron stars and resilience.
Professor Dave Lambert, Dean of the Doctoral College at the University of Leicester, said: “It is no small achievement to find an image that crystallises for a non-specialist audience the essence of a project. The breadth of images exhibited here is testament to the capacity of our researchers to communicate, in exciting and unique ways, the stories of their work.”
As always, this year‘s competition builds from last year’s successful event and will encourage visitors to cast their vote for the coveted People’s Choice Award. The People’s Choice Award is award is given in memory of the late Mrs Katherine May, dedicated supporter, friend, and ambassador of the University of Leicester for over 30 years. Katherine was a doting wife to her husband – Dr Frank May, MBE – and mother to her three sons – David, Alan, and Michael.
Alongside a busy and successful career in Fleet Street, London, Katherine dedicated time to her local community here in Leicester. Amongst others, Katherine volunteered for the Townswomen’s Guild, The League of Jewish Women, and the Society of Christians and Jews. Compassion and peace enthused all that she stood for which is why naming ‘The Peoples’ Choice Award’ and awarding the silver cup – donated by Frank – in her memory is so apt.
The Images of Research exhibition will be on display from Wednesday 27 November in the Fraser Noble Hall, 2 University Road, Leicester LE1 7RA from 11.00am to 4.00pm. This event is free and open to all.
