Beginning at the Guru Nanak Gurdwara on Holy Bones, the procession made its way through the heart of the city, with participants coming together to sing hymns, share food, and perform seva (selfless service) along the route. Spectators lined the streets, soaking in the lively atmosphere of the occasion, which has long been a significant tradition for the Sikh community in Leicester.
The Nagar Kirtan, which has been taking place in Leicester for over 40 years, not only celebrates the Sikh faith but also promotes values of equality, service, and community spirit, uniting people of all backgrounds to honour Sikh culture and values. The spiritual event followed a morning service and commemorated the formation of the Khalsa in 1699.

The Khalsa is a community of Sikhs who have undergone the amrit ceremony (initiation) and made a solemn commitment to follow Sikh principles.
This year, Leicester also made history by hosting its inaugural outdoor Khalsa Sajna Divas celebration at Spinney Hill Park. This Vaisakhi Samagam (gathering), attracted around 10,000 attendees from across the UK, showcasing the city’s vibrant Sikh community and its inclusive atmosphere.
