A successful IT consultant and mum of two, is launching a not-for-profit initiative designed to empower, inspire and encourage other mums to pursue their passions.
When Hema Kala moved to Leicester from London ten years ago, and was struck by the low self-confidence of some of the mum’s she befriended.
In order to help remedy this, she’s set to launch a new initiative called ‘Super Mums Club.’ Its mission is to help empower mums and inspire them to take steps towards reaching their goals, passions and desires.
“I lived in London for ten years and worked as an IT consultant, where I was quite confident and professional. I’d been with a network of mums who are quite successful,” explained the 42-year-old.
“However, when we moved to Leicester, I noticed that I had made a lot of friends but a lot of them lacked confidence. It seemed like they want to do something in their life, but they just don’t know how to initiate it,” she went on to reveal.
“Their children are at a point where they are independent, and don’t really need that much attention so they have a lot of spare time, which is not being used wisely.
“They’re just either gossiping or watching TV and and then eventually, they get depressed.
“So I’m just trying to make them a bit more confident, and show them that there are ways to learn new skills and find new ways to become inspired.”
Hema, whose children are 10 and 14, has organised a networking event on May 7, which will serve as the launch of ‘Super Mums Club.’
The event, being held at Leicester’s Peepul Centre, will feature talks by a host of mums, who have succeeded in various fields, including art and business.
It will be followed by a dinner and dance party for mums to ‘break free.’
In the future, it is hoped that various activities and workshops will follow, as well as classes for the wellbeing and personal development of mums in the area.
Hema told Pukaar News that ‘Super Mums Club’ is her way of giving back to the community.
It is a ‘passion project’ which was conceived ten years ago. However, due to family commitments, she is only now finding the time to bring it to fruition.
“This idea conceived in my head ten years back, after I gave birth to my daughter. Whilst on maternity leave, I met a friend who was struggling, because after you give birth, you have to give up your career for a couple of years,” she said. “She wanted to do something from home whilst looking after her child, so I gave her the idea or making jewellery that she could sell online.
“That sort of gave me the idea of ‘Super Mum’s Club’ and being an IT consultant, I set up the website and everything.
However, it took me ten years to actually start this whole thing, because being a mum took its toll! I couldn’t cope with two kids, housework and an IT job and procrastination led me to gave up on my project.
“But now in 2023, I have become determined to work this out on my own as I don’t want to regret that I didn’t try!
“It’s is a passion project, which has come out of a personal experience, and is my way of giving back to the community,” she added.
“I’m doing really well with my job, but something’s compelled me to help other women. There are mums who really need some help in this, so I thought, let me be the medium. I just want to connect successful mums to the ones that need the help.”
